Why having a pilot daddy rocks

Now that we are back from Europe it was time to get our life in order, vacation fun over. Little man was due for his four year old shots and I was not looking forward to taking him in. Knowing that daddy was coming off hitch on Tuesday I scheduled the nurse appointment for Wednesday so that we both could take our son. Continued in Hanger Rats

My life will change drastically

My life will change drastically in just couple of weeks my parents –in-law will be relocated and living 45 minutes away from me. I am so excited about this development, for so many reasons.  For four years now I have lived in the great state of Texas with my Mr. Right and our boy - which really means that 6 to 8 month of the year it was just the son and I. No more. In two weeks we will have Grandma and Pappie just two towns away. Continued in Relationships

Zimowit

So I bet many of you are seeing my background going what the… why a blooming flower in the fall? Well there is a type of a flower in Poland that is called a zimowit. This is a flower that blooms before the 1st snow fall and its name means winter welcomer, it blooms in the fall and then recedes into the ground for the winter. In the spring the flower had green leaved and no blooms. Pretty neat. My son and my tata (dad)  relocated them in my tata’s garden and thus they bloomed a little early this year so I got to see them. Here are the pictures, enjoy.

Wieliczka - Salt mine

This is one of the most incredible places in the world, where you experience the force of nature and the strength and determination of man working together and creating something truly amazing. The mine began forming about 13.5 million years ago. The mining activities started in the middle ages and continued until 1996. There are two stories as to how the mine formed you are welcome to choose which you believe: Continued in Polska - Poland

Castles

We visited multiple castles and a heritage village while in Poland. I love to see and learn how people used to live and the things they used to build shelter and later to make furniture. Here are the few castles that we visited in Poland, there are many many more that are worth seeing but those will come on the next visit to Europe. To read stories about the castles and some legends about nobility, dragons and a little family tit bit check out Polska - Poland

Flavors of Polska

I love Polish food it goes without saying that the food you grow up with is the food that is comforting to you. My favorite is Polish bread with real butter, it is crunchy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside, the rolls are to die for. In addition to bread I will never turn my nose up at my grandmother’s meat pierogies with bacon bits, yumm (my son and husband cleaned her out when we were there I wish I had pictures of my four year old stealing pierogies from my plate). And for those of you who are familiar with Polish cuisine kluski served with chicken and cabbage is another diner that just makes me warm and fuzzy. Buckwheat is something that my dad frequently uses in place of potatoes or rice and I can’t find it anywhere and oh do I love it so.  A lot has also changed since I was a child and there are more varieties and more influences from other cuisines than I remember so where I didn’t document every meal I have some pictures to share with you of the fabulous food that we consumed. Let's Start with Warszawa

My visit to Poland started with several weeks of family time and outings; we visited historic castles and the zoo, as well as visiting some of my corners that I frequented as a child. All of this will come, but first I want to share with you the pictures from Warszawa (Warsaw).
I traveled 1st class via train from Silesia to Warszawa to meet up with my husband who flew in from France after visiting Normandy.
My evening in Warszawa was spend with my childhood friend. We went to elementary school together so we date back well over 20 years. Our friendship withstood miles of physical separation and when we finally found ourselves in one room there was no stopping the chatting and catching up over a glass of wine. It was so lovely to have this time with her to meet her husband and beautiful daughters, for the 1st time. My son made fast friends with her girls right away and they somehow managed to communicate in both Polish and English and played splendidly (now they demand to Skype - maybe a new friendship has formed).
The day in Warszawa was full of amazing sites and little history lessons. I am not good at history, honestly I don't have a head for dates, but find the stories fascinating, my husband on the other hand has studied up on Polska in general and thus had great understanding of the history of Warszawa and had a ton of questions. Thank you to my dear friends for answering them all.  Continued in Polska

Castels dating back to the 1200's and more

I am having a wonderful time visiting Poland. We are staying in a remote counrty house with gorgeous views and quiet forests all arround, yet enjoing all of the amazing comforts of todays world. The internet is a bit slow so pictures load slowly. This trip is jaus amazing and I will share more details when I return to the US and have more time.
We are enjoying out field trips and family life, waiting for our pilot to finish his hitch and join us in this adventure.
I hope everyone fared well with the hurricane and that all  of you are safe.

Day 3 in Poland and travel recap

I have had the most wonderful time visiting with my family. My trip to Poland was a long one since I was traveling all the way from Texas. It took 25 hours for me to travel from my doorstep to my dad’s. Due to my preparations it was an easy trip and here is why.

I had my wallet, boarding passes and passports only in a separate back pack pocket so I did not have to dig to get to my documents.
I had planed my packing for a while and had pre-packed few days before the trip so that I could add last minute items and not rush packing.
I had entertainment, movies, games, books and coloring books for my four year old so he was not bored.
I bought snacks (thank you Polly) in the US airport so I didn’t have to worry about fees or lack of money in London because I was stocked.

I took off out of Houston and the night flight was a great option since son slept almost the entire time, except from during meals and a little after we boarded. I actually had to wake him up an hour before arrival for breakfast. My time in London was a three hour layover. Heathrow is a huge airport with a metro and I am glad I had it. Since I did not land there before it took me few minutes to figure out where to go, that I had to take the underground to another terminal. We had a grand time checking out the stores and then we boarded.

Jetleg is a bit more of a problem for son than I. He has picked up his mid-day naps again but he is starting to go to bed more regularly at a normal time and where he woke up sever limes the first two nights he slept all of last night in a solid stretch. I am on local time and doing fine I even ran today. Stay tuned for more of the fun facts and things that son and I are doing.

So close

Alrighty then, we are in the last stretch before departing for Europe and I feel like I have a pretty solid handle on everything. My weekend went great with my friend visiting with her family. We had a little celebration for the boys’ birthdays they are 2 months apart and celebrated their 4th birthday, we had a party which was wonderful and the whole weekend flew by much too quickly.  Continued In the life of the Whirly Wife

Almost Ready

Ok so a quick recap of preparations for our trip: what is done and what is still to be done and maybe what I have forgotten. It is funny to watch how I am planning and my husband pilot who travels all the time just is so relaxed and no big deal about the whole thing. I guess it is an occupational hazard to pilot's trips are no big deal.

The pile up

This is a side effect of having a spouse who is working and away from home for extended periods of time, stuff piles up.  It is not only items on the honey do list such as the garage door doesn’t open by code, there is an ant pile in the front yard, there is a leaf pile that needs to be turned over in the back yard, ect. There is also the conversation topics that pile up, especially now with my trip being so very close and last minute things need to be decided, like are we traveling with travelers check or will we use a credit card or cash or a little of all three, finalizing plans of when to drop off the dog and who is driving who to the airport and who is picking who up from  the airport and so many more, and last minute gifts. Getting ready for a big adventure

So another reason for my low blog participation, (even though I have not written much I still have been reading) is our upcoming adventure. Son and I are taking a trip to Europe for several weeks and thus there has been quite a bit of shopping and running around to prepare. Continued In the life of the Whirly Wife

Mud Pie

I know that I have been very quiet lately and the thing is that I think about writing everyday but then I get swamped with things to do and projects that I need to wrap up and then it is night and I am so very tired that I feel like falling into bed and passing out. So here is one fun thing that son and I did while Mr. Right was at work and it was such great fun that I highly recommend it.  Continued in Hanger Rats
