Beef and Broccoli

When I go to a Chinese Restaurant it is pretty much a   given that I will order wanton soup and egg roll and beef and broccoli. I LOVE beef and broccoli. Several years ago I have tried making it myself and after trying few recipes I found one that was pretty close to the real thing in Simply Quick and Easy cook book. After few tries and some tweaking I finally have it down to where it turns out great every time. Son loves this so I make enough to last two meals. Although if not careful we could polish off 14oz of stake in one sitting. Recipe in Meals for Two

On a whim

I have been feeling a little blah for a while. There is not a particular reason, I was not depressed but I was not in a super duper energetic mood either. Then I had an unexpected treat that just gave me an amazing boost and a high that has been lasting for days. Continued In the life of a Pilot's Wife

Locks of Love

It has been on my heart for quite a while now to donate my hair to Locks of Love.  Locks of Love is a great organization helping children who suffer from loss of hair primarily from alopecia or cancer.  I always wanted to donate hair but never had quite enough or it was highlighted throughout and I could not donate. Blueberry fun came first

The other day my girlfriend came by and brought two pounds of blueberries with her. We were having a girl’s night. I love blueberries so I was thrilled to make something yummy with them. After we ate diner we put together a yummy blueberry cobbler using the Pioneer mix recipe that I tweaked like my mother-in-law did when we made peach cobbler over Christmas. The cobblers were delish and we ate two, right away and saved the other two for next day.  Since I was left with another pound of blueberries and the entire blueberry madness was started because of my blueberry jam that we shared for breakfast before our hike that morning, I decided to make the jam and share it with my friend. The jam turned out beautifully and I am dying for a piece of toast with blueberry jam.  The recipes are in Meals for Two. I love girl’s weekends when we chat and cook and do girl stuff, what a great way to spend time.

Maltball cake

I found this recipe on a baking blog that I follow. It looked so delicious I just had to try it. Since the blog is written by a polish gal in Poland I could not obtain all of the ingredients and decided that the cake just would not taste right if I didn’t follow the recipe exactly so I made my friend Polly’s chocolate cake, my favorite cream cheese frosting and I decorated the cake just like the Moje Wypieki recipe showed. It was a very good cake not too sweet yet chocolaty.Recipe in Meals for Two

I know it's been quiet

I know it’s been quiet on the Whirly Wife blog. It is not for lack of desire to write or lack of topic but husband has had a full break at home and I just enjoyed him to the fullest.  We did so much but in a way we just were mellow. He took son to the zoo so mama had a day off (It’s all about mama), I finally got over my cold, we celebrated his birthday (a cake recipe will follow), we had friends over and shopped for books. We got the little man a sand box and did a ton of yard work on his last day home.

It’s all about mama

After a long stretch of being on my own with a sick boy and sporting a cold of my own, my wonderful husband treated me to a “Mama day”.  A day just for me all alone at the house with nothing to do. Continued in In the life of the Whirly Wife

California Roll - Sushi

We were having a "Goodbye" party for one of the couples that we are friends with who moved out of state and I made California Rolls for the very 1st time. I really enjoy the taste and they are great finger food. I bought a bamboo mat and some rice and looked up a bunch of recipes on Food.com I combined several recipes to make my California Rolls and they turned out great. I made 6 rolls and they were pretty much all gone by the end of the night. I made another 2 rolls for lunch for myself few days ago and narrowed down exactly how I like them. I was really surprised as to how easy they are to make and how inexpensive. I think that I will attempt something a little more complex next time maybe with some fish, crab and Philadelphia cream cheese. In the meantime I thought I would share this little recipe in Meals for Two.
